Axpo started expanding their energy sales business from Central Europe to the Nordic countries in 2003. Cooperation with Empower started in 2006. Axpo Finland was established in 2009 to get closer to our customers in Finland and the Baltic countries. Empower became responsible for the implementation of the physical electricity sales as well as for IT solutions and energy market services and billing in all Nordic countries.

The retail market is undergoing radical changes as all business processes will move to a data-hub structure in the early 2020s. This requires system updates and for this reason Axpo selected Empower to implement the Nordic data hub integrations with EnerimCIS.

– We do not operate in the consumer market so integration with data hubs does not create added value for our customers or create new business opportunities for us. Consequently, our perspective was primarily that of internal development and the goal we set for the system renewal was to free up time from repetitive routine work for tasks that create more added value for our customers. With EnerimCIS, we could automate processes considerably and eliminate sending Excel files by e-mail. The system also makes it possible to model our own processes, streamlining and waterproofing our existing routines, says Kimmo Tyni, responsible for business development and new services at Axpo.

Cooperation with Empower has continued for a long time already.

– At the time the cooperation originally started, Empower had no clear market competitors that would have been able to offer equivalent energy market services in the Nordic countries. Empower’s abilities to understand our needs and provide solutions for them has been the cornerstone of our cooperation. Furthermore, we appreciate the customer-oriented service we have received, explains Tyni. To us, Empower is an important partner with a unique service package – it is difficult to find similar companies that produce energy market services as a neutral party in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Empower is also capable of offering flexibility in the service production, which is an absolute requirement for success due to the cyclical nature of our business.
